Weekly Themes & Letters
We
do not do the letters in chronological order. There is no reason to. We
rather focus on themes that our students are interested in and
incorporate a letter that best fits that theme. We use Lakeshore Learning
theme boxes as our curriculum. We build on our curriculum by adding
themes that are not including in the boxes, but we think our students
will like. We will indicate the themes that are NOT included in the
theme boxes with a *. We add activities, games, projects, experiments
and much more to each theme. You can find our ideas listed by theme on
my Pinterest page. To see what we do each week and step by step instructions follow this blog. Feel free to ask any questions!!

Dramatic Play
Each
month I add a new piece to our dramatic play center. Just until
recently, this center was separate from the traditional kitchen dramatic
play. But due to the children wanting to combine both kitchen and
community dramatic play center, I made it one big center. Below is each
month and what community center I bring in.
September: Harvest Sale
The
Preschoolers took turns selling and buying pumpkins, squash and apples.
I added real pumpkins later into harvest sale. The stand was bought at
Ikea. It lasted almost the whole month. I made the signs back in student
teaching!
October: Backyard & Bonfire
This
is a new idea this year. I got some green turf from Menard's and used
green duck tape to keep the edges from fringing. Then I found this
picket fence that we taped to the floor (we will have a new idea for
this next year). Then I found this adorable inflatable fire pit, garden
gloves, Fisher Price smore kit, two folding chairs. Later on in the
month I added fake leaves and rakes. They had a blast!!
November: Ice Cream Shop
Over
the year I have collected a variety of ice Cream utensils, from bowls,
to sundae cups, ice cream scoops and more. I make a variety of
play-dough (ice cream) and let the preschoolers pretend they own an ice
cream shop. This is one of the favorites!
This is what it looks like after they played in it!! YIKES!!
December: Bakery
This
year we had a bakery filled with pretend cupcakes, cooking utensils,
baking sheets and more. Since it is similar to the Ice Cream Shop, next
year I will be doing a Nativity scene. I think it will help the better
understand the story of Christmas. I am looking forward to it.
No pic. Sorry! :(
January: Space Shuttle
February: Writing Center & Post Office
March: Airport
April: Grocery Store
May: Vet
